Dear friends,
Creative industries are a branch of economy that brings together culture and business, education and entertainment, history, and innovations. The branch is being re-discovered and updated these days and becomes the focus of attention at the discussions of the country’s economic growth and regional development. The branch is also closely connected with Soft Power and public diplomacy, which explains our interest in it.
In this issue, we have given the floor to the persons who represent the creative industries of Russia. Some of them are experienced specialists who ‘know the ropes’, and others are beginners and founders of start-ups.
Irina Dubovskaya, founder and head of Creative Connections, an Agency for Culture Diplomacy and Creative Industries, has contributed an article headlined “Culture Ties Create Unique Meanings” where she writes about her own rich experience and mentions a lot of regional enterprises working in the creative industries.
Daria Bozhko, Executive Director of Creative Diplomacy, has made economy and legislation the points of her article. She spells out the 2024 Federal Law “On development of creative industries in the Russian Federation” and outlines the specificities of the intellectual property rights in the field of the creative industries.
Tatiana Khrapko, head of the “CREADEV” Organization, has expressed her opinion on the political side of the creative industries and highlighted the importance of gaining and protecting the “creative sovereignty” of Russia.
Creative Diplomacy’s long-term contributor, Diana Kovela, Programme Director of the Project Office of the International Youth Cooperation “Russia-BRICS”, has shared her experience in organizing events that strengthen the international ties among the BRICS+ countries.
Articles and a Calendar of the year’s top events give the reader an idea not only of the ‘backstage mechanics’ of the Russian creative industries but also of the riches and variety the industries offer in arts and crafts, digital and phygital arts, game design, advertising, publishing, fashion, gastronomy, etc.
We hope you will find the issue both informative and entertaining. We also wish you a Happy New Year!
