The first day of the Meeting Russia Program began with a discussion about the concept of Russian foreign policy and the transformation of this concept in the 21
st century. The invited experts were Vice President for International Affairs at Far Eastern Federal University
Victoria Panova and Head of Strategic Assessment Section at the Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO RAS)
Sergey Utkin.
Particular attention was paid to the growing role of non-state organizations and the necessity of soft power doctrine promotion. The Program participants discussed Russian external activities in the Asia-Pacific region and the possible increase in cooperation between Russia, China and India. Russian peace-keeping policy in the post-Soviet space was also touched upon.
The next session was devoted to relations between Russia and the United States. The invited peakers were RIAC experts
Maxim Suchkov and
Alexey Naumov, as well as Professor of International Politics at Tufts University
Daniel Drezner. The experts discussed with the participants the transformation of the American domestic and foreign policy course under the administration of Joseph Biden. The new prospects and challenges for Russian-US relations were accessed. The specialists were doubt that major changes should be expected.
The final discussion was dedicated to the role of sanctions within the framework of Russia-US relations. The main speaker became Director of Programs at the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC)
Ivan Timofeev. The participants learned about the theoretical principles of the sanctions policy, as well as about its practical results. The development of multilateral relations of this kind was analyzed in the historical context.
The Young Leaders from Russia, the United States and Europe will have two more days of expert discussions on international topics and meetings with speakers, including Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation
Maria Zakharova and well-known experts from the PIR Center, the All-Russia People's Front (ONF), the Center for Strategic Research (CSR) and other agencies.
